Mount Carmel Health System Bringing Our Shared Vision to Life | Page 3
LAND -PLANNING PROGRESS
This past year, working with two urban planning firms—
EDGE and SmithGroupJJR—Mount Carmel completed
another major step in the transformation process: the
land-planning work necessary to refine and bring to life
the vision for the Mount Carmel West campus. We’re
excited about the progress we’re making and also about
what lies ahead.
The vision that has emerged from our community
outreach and land-planning work will begin to come to
life in these initial steps in the transformation process:
• Creating a new state-of-the-art, full-service, 24/7
Emergency Department in the existing Green Street
building.

By preserving essential emergency-
department services at the West Campus
and enhancing the nursing college
and Healthy Living Center, as well as
investing in the site’s landscape, the
health system is laying the groundwork
to attract partners to redevelop the land
that Mount Carmel no longer will use.

As plans evolve, other departments and services might
also move to Mount Carmel West.

Mount Carmel will take lead responsibility for portions of
the plan that match our capabilities. To the extent we can,
we will facilitate development of community-specific
plans, including needs such as housing, job training,
businesses and services. Other needs will require shared
responsibility for leadership, planning and
implementation.

We also will continue to expand the successful programs
at the Healthy Living Center that are currently serving
more than 10,000 people each year.
