Amanda Castellow answers questions , from the personal home care residents , about the two camelids , Dolly , and Tina . to look for the girls to make an appearance downtown at Spring Fling this year .
“ So , that ’ s my dream . Just to make this into a non-profit ,” she said .
In the meantime , she said , the camelid rental business helps support the therapy visits that she and the girls do now . Like Willow Lodge Personal Care Home where we were , today .
She said that camelids were becoming popular in the therapy world because they were sensitive to human ’ s feelings and body language .
“ Whereas before , it was dogs , they ’ re finding that llamas and alpacas can do very similar ,” she said and added that they were used a lot more in the Northeast because people have more alpaca and llama farms .
“ So you see organizations doing this ,” she said and added that one day , she would love to go and meet with one of the organizations that were using camelids for therapy .
“ I never came up with this like big mission statement . I just know that I want to help people heal through animal-assisted therapy ,” she said .
