Everyone – regardless of race or gender – is welcome to join the branch . Felicia Carr said the branch has had approximately 120 members join in 2022 . What attracted Carr to the Colquitt County branch was its origin story .
Steve Reynolds has been a member of the Colquitt County NAACP for about 15 years . He described the branch ’ s work as being done “ behind the scenes .”
“ For instance , we met with the school board [ Colquitt County School District Board of Education ] recently when we got the new school superintendent [ Ben Wiggins ]. We had a meeting with him , [ and ] we had to meet with the city manager [ Pete Dilllard ]. Some of the results that you see [ are ] that you

got more Blacks working up in the administrative building like the utility [ department ],” Reynolds said .
There is also more black and Latino representation within the Moultrie Fire Department , he said , which includes Tyshon Reed Sr . as the department ’ s assistant chief .
The branch ’ s officers have also raised concerns with the school board about having more diverse representation in administrative roles at less diverse schools within the district . Reynolds said keeping schools in the predominantly Black community like C . A . Gray Junior High School operating was also a major concern within the branch .
The Colquitt County NAACP isn ’ t always strictly about business . They often conduct multiple community outreach events throughout the year .
