As far as what the trends in wedding hairstyles are , right now , Tomlinson said , “ I ’ m really liking the loose , wavy . People don ’ t want it tight anymore . They want it loose , effortless like it just got put up .”
She said this “ Boho ” wedding hairstyle also photographs well .
Another trend , in the last year , she said , has been to have a higher up-do where it ’ s curled and put up on top of the head like styles that were popular in the Nineties .
“ I love it and that is really coming back , too ,” she said .
A tip that she offers , which is especially relevant in South Georgia , is if it ’ s a hot and humid day , don ’ t wear the hair down .
“ Even if brides want it , I suggest at least half-up , half-down . That humidity in South Georgia is just awful ,” she said .
Brides should be flexible on their wedding hairstyle , just in case the weather isn ’ t cooperating , she said .
“ Now , if they ’ re adamant about it , so be it . I will do whatever they want … but I can ’ t promise that it ’ s going to stay until ten o ’ clock that night ,” she added .
She also suggests that , when a bride is choosing a style for her wedding hair , she wears it the complete opposite of how she wears it daily . So , if she always wears it up , she should wear it down on her wedding and vice versa .
“ I do like to see several different photos of what the bride is wanting . I can kind of combine them all ,” Tomlinson said and explained that she could take elements that the bride like from the photos and put them together into a style .
The final tip that she has to offer is to just be honest with the hair stylist who is doing your hair for your wedding .
“ Being honest is 100 % important . I will look at my brides , which you can normally see in someone ’ s face , and I say , ‘ If you do not like this , it is not going to hurt my feelings at all . I do not care .’ I want them to be honest ,” she said .
Tomlinson said that the last thing that she wanted to do was to leave a wedding and then see the photos and the hair is different or the bride wasn ’ t happy . She said that hasn ’ t happened to her but it is a fear that she has .
A bride who wants to set-up an appointment for Tomlinson to do her hair for her wedding needs to do it a minimum of four months before the wedding day and the consultation can be done a month before .
“ The quicker the better . My Saturdays , we work half-day , so , I do a lot . I do colors all day long ,” she said .
She said that , at one time , someone could book her only two months in advance but , now , her Saturdays are booked quickly .
“ Not every hairstylist will do wedding hair . I know people that have done it for years and they refuse to do wedding hair because of the stress ,” she said .
Tomlinson said that something a bride should also be aware of is that there are travel fees when a stylist goes to a wedding venue to do hair . Typically , she does the entire bridal party ’ s hair and , if there are more than five , she brings along someone to help . It usually takes about an hour per person , she said , and the bride may take an hour and a half , depending on the complexity of the style .
“ There ’ s no better feeling in the world than people telling you how much they love their hair ,” she said . “ That ’ s what makes me excited !”
