One of the things customers could get at the Farmers Market was fresh squeezed lemonade with fresh fruit to quench their thirst from Lakeshia Baker, on the right.
Sourdough bread from Big Nuff Homestead, in Cairo.
When I was a little girl, probably around six or seven years old, I remember going to the Thomasville Farmers Market with my grandparents so they could sell a load of yellow squash. They were share croppers and growing vegetables on a small plot of land that wasn’ t theirs was part of their income.
I remember them loading up the back of their white Ford pick-up truck with hampers of squash to take to the market. I can still remember the sound of the auctioneer rattling off the numbers in that chanting voice auctioneers use, throughout the day. It was exciting for a kid but a lot of hard work for my grandparents for not a whole lot of money sometimes. Typical, for farming.
