The American Red Cross of Georgia prevents and alleviates human suffering in the face of emergencies through the power of volunteers and the generosity of donors. The nonprofit humanitarian organization helps communities prepare for, respond to and recover from disasters; supplies about 40 % of the nation’ s blood; teaches skills that save lives; provides international humanitarian aid; and supports military members, veterans and their families.

The Serenity House’ s pre-work began in 2001 and it opened its doors in 2002 as Colquitt County’ s domestic violence shelter. Serenity House’ s mission is to provide temporary, emergency shelter and support services for victims of domestic violence. The shelter receives referrals to other domestic violence shelters in South Georgia.

The Southwest Georgia Community Action Council provides a variety of services within 21 counties to help low-income individuals and families climb out of poverty. Services fall under three major categories: Community Services, Child Development, Housing and Energy. Examples of services include self-sufficiency case management, homeless prevention assistance with rent and utility bill payment, Head Start / Early Head Start comprehensive preschool services, home weatherization, housing preservation services, home delivered meals for seniors, youth summer day camps, and assistance with heating / cooling bills under the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program( LIHEAP). The United Way of Colquitt County’ s mission is to organize, coordinate, and maximize the resources available to our diverse community to improve the quality of life. It focuses on three major areas: Health, Education and Financial Stability.
United Way of Colquitt County works to help children achieve their potential through education and helps families to become stable and financially independent by supporting basic needs and addressing barriers to employment. It also works in the community to improve health through access to food, increasing health education and preventive care, and working to reduce child abuse and domestic violence.
More than 400 individuals volunteer with and for United Way of Colquitt County annually.
Currently, it provides a grant-funded program that helps with access to transportation, Ride United. Ride United is a United Way program that provides on-demand rides for people with no other transportation options. n
