Der Römer Franco Morbidelli kam aus dem European Superstock 600 Cup im Jahr 2014 in die Moto2™ Klasse . 2015 konnte er bereits sein Talent blitzen lassen , was ihm 2016 den Wechsel ins Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS Moto™ Team ermöglichte . Mit dieser Mannschaft wurde er ein Jahr später Moto2™ Weltmeister . Im gleichen Team wechselte er dann in die MotoGP™ , doch der Kunden- Honda RC213V fehlte es an Leistung . 2019 wechselte Morbidelli ins Yamaha-Kunden-Team von Sepang Racing - und dort holte er vier Reihe-Eins-Starts und sieben Top-Sechs-Resultate . 2020 setzte er noch einen drauf : Er feierte zwei Pole-Positions , drei Siege und wurde auf einem Jahresmotorrad Vizeweltmeister . 2021 zog er sich eine schwere Knieverletzung zu , mit der er fünf Rennen auslassen musste . Seit seiner Rückkehr war Morbidelli nie mehr der Alte . 2022 aber ist er vollständig genesen in die Saison gestartet - und ins Yamaha Werksteam gewechselt . Kann er dort an seine Form aus 2020 anknüpfen ?

Off the back of exciting performances in the European Superstock 600cc Championship , the laconic Roman joined Moto2™ in 2014 . 2015 showed definite promise and a switch to Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS Moto2™ team for 2016 led to him winning the title in 2017 . His move to MotoGP™ with Marc VDS was undermined by an underpowered Honda RC213V . But a switch to the Petronas-backed Sepang Racing Team for 2019 brought about seven top six finishes and four front row starts . He built on that , claiming two poles , three wins and second in the championship in 2020 on a year-old bike . 2021 was plagued by a serious knee injury , which caused him to miss five races . He was never quite the same rider upon his return . But Morbidelli is fully fit for the start of 2022 . And he has the latest Yamaha in the factory team . Can he reproduce his 2020 form ?
