When the Portuguese rider learned the team plumped for Miller, he wasn’ t short of options. Two of those were in the WorldSBK™ paddock. In the end, he plumped for BMW to take over the reins from Razgatlioglu.
“ As soon as I realised it was difficult for me to have a place in MotoGP, as a full-time rider, I had to put on heavy consideration, because I was also offered the opportunity to be a test rider, and the decisive factor for me was the desire to compete. And that fire is still very much on, and the only way I could do it was in World Superbike. So what I tried to do was to look for the best competitive tools to do it. And BMW felt like the right option for me.”
But this doesn’ t necessarily mean the end of Oliveira in MotoGP™.“ I ' m on a one-year contract with BMW, and I don ' t say the ultimate goal is to come back. But for sure I leave the door open, because MotoGP has been my life for the past 15 years. So you don ' t close the door and lock it completely, you know.”
Quando soube que a equipa optou por Miller, Oliveira não ficou sem opções. Duas delas estavam no paddock do WorldSBK™, e acabou por escolher a BMW, sucedendo a Razgatlioglu.
“ Assim que percebi que seria difícil continuar na MotoGP como piloto a tempo inteiro, tive de refletir bem. Também me foi oferecida a possibilidade de ser piloto de testes, mas o fator decisivo foi o desejo de competir. Essa chama ainda está muito acesa, e a única forma de a manter viva era no World Superbike. Por isso, procurei as melhores condições para ser competitivo, e a BMW pareceu-me a opção certa.”
Mas isso não significa o fim definitivo de Oliveira na MotoGP™.“ Tenho um contrato de um ano com a BMW, e não digo que o objetivo final seja regressar. Mas deixo a porta aberta, porque a MotoGP tem sido a minha vida nos últimos 15 anos. E não se fecha uma porta dessas para sempre.”
