After a disastrous 2023 , when it finished last in the Constructor ’ s Championship , Honda has upped its efforts considerably over the winter months . At the Sepang test there were more technicians present , while it has called upon Alex Baumgärtel , the genius behind Moto2 chassis designer Kalex , as a consultant .
Testing showed HRC has drastically improved its aerodynamics game over the winter months . New rider Luca Marini has already advised HRC engineers on how to further improve them after years working with Ducati . “ We could see many new parts , a lot of changes inside the team , inside of Honda , and it ’ s clear they want to move on from this situation ,” said lead rider Joan Mir .
For 2024 , the RC213V has been completely redesigned . The bike is much lighter than last year ’ s model , with improvements also coming with its engine and power delivery . Yet last year ’ s huge deficit – acceleration – is still present , meaning great results in the early part of the year are unlikely . But both Repsol Honda riders expect results to pick up once into the second half of the year .
“ It ’ s clear they want to move on from this situation .”
