There’ s another session of free practice, so essentially track time, before qualifying starts. The Q1 session gives the riders in it a second shot at moving through to Q2 and the pole position shootout. The top two in Q1 move through. The rest have their grid positions decided, from P13 down.
Then it’ s time for Q2 and the fight for pole. It usually goes to the wire, and riders will usually do two runs. They’ ll head out on a lap to warm up their tyres, go for a hot lap, and then a cool down lap on the way back in. The top three at the end are the front row starters, and they’ ll head for parc ferme to celebrate.

Moto2 en Moto3 volgen hetzelfde format als MotoGP. Op vrijdag wordt de top 14 bepaald die automatisch naar Q2 gaat en de rest zit in Q1. De Moto3-klasse krijgt op vrijdagmiddag 35 minuten de tijd om voor Q2 te kwalificeren, de Moto2-klasse 40 minuten.
In 2023 introduceerden we de MotoGP-sprintrace en dit is de eerste raceactie in de koningsklasse. Geracet wordt de halve afstand van de zondagse Grand Prix. Het is een voorproefje van het weekend en smaakt naar zoveel meer. De grid blijft voor zondag dezelfde ongeacht het resultaat van de sprint.

Then, Moto3™ and Moto2™ qualify, before it’ s Sprint time. The MotoGP™ Sprint is the first race action in the premier class, and half distance in comparison to the main Grand Prix on Sunday. The grid is the same for the Sprint and the GP race, and the action is just as spectacular. Seeing the lights go out twice on one weekend adds two huge spikes of awesome adrenaline to the event.
