Looking at the season’ s first third, Aprilia has been the undoubted surprise of 2026 so far. But surely Fabio Di Giannantonio isn’ t far behind, with the Italian currently the pick of Ducati’ s talented stable of riders.
The 27-year old has been fast and consistent since the very first round. Podiums in Brazil and Jerez were excellent. But a first victory since 2023 in Barcelona catapulted‘ Diggia’ into title contention.
“ I’ m so happy and super proud of what we are doing this first part of the season,” Di Giannantonio said.“ I think we made a clear step on our communication and our method of work this season. I’ m super proud and grateful to my team. They’ re doing great to give me everything that they can that I need to go fast. There is this little saying that when you do the races out of Europe, it is its own championship. Then you start in Europe, the championship starts for real, and we’ ve been fast.”
Di Giannantonio has benefited from a third straight year working with the Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team. Crucially, he is working with Crew Chief Massimo Branchini for the second straight season. That continuity has been a definite bonus.
A szezon első harmadát tekintve kétségtelenül az Aprilia jelentette a 2026-os idény eddigi legnagyobb meglepetését. Ugyanakkor Fabio Di Giannantonia sincs ettől messze, hiszen az olasz versenyző jelenleg a Ducati tehetséges pilótagárdájának legkiemelkedőbb tagja.
A 27 éves versenyző az első fordulótól kezdve gyors és kiegyensúlyozott teljesítményt nyújt. A brazíliai és jerezi dobogós helyezések is kiváló eredmények voltak, ám a Barcelonában aratott – 2023 óta első- futamgyőzelme már a bajnoki címért folyó harcba repítette „ Diggiát”.
„ Nagyon boldog vagyok, és rendkívül büszke arra, amit a szezon első részében elértünk” – mondta Fabio Di Giannantonio. „ Úgy érzem, idén egyértelműen fejlődtünk a kommunikáció és a munkamódszer terén. Nagyon büszke vagyok a csapatomra és hálával tartozom nekik. Fantasztikus munkát végeznek és mindent megtesznek azért, hogy gyors legyek. Van egy mondás, hogy az Európán kívüli versenyek egy külön bajnokságot alkotnak. Aztán megérkezel Európába és akkor kezdődik igazából a bajnokság – és mi gyorsak voltunk.”
Di Giannantonio számára komoly előnyt jelent, hogy immár harmadik egymást követő szezonját tölti a Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team kötelékében. Ami különösen fontos, hogy zsinórban a második szezonját tölti Massimo Branchini főmérnökkel, amely folytonosság egyértelműen előnyt jelent.
