The challenge last season for the ever-mercurial Maverick Viñales was to become the first rider to win in the MotoGP era with three different bikes. In the USA, he did just that – and after a bad start forced him to come back from outside the top ten. Now, as he moves to Red Bull KTM Tech3, the challenge would seem clear: win on a fourth different machine. Why mercurial? Seemingly near unbeatable when everything is in place but not having found that seam of consistency that could have changed his legacy with Suzuki, Yamaha and Aprilia, Viñales is now looking for that with KTM. And that extra piece of a history he now already holds: winning with a fourth different bike.
