Class of the field in his Moto2 title winning year in 2017, Morbidelli has impressed in MotoGP too – but will want to rekindle some of his earlier form in the class. After coming second in the 2020 title fight with Yamaha, fortunes waned for both and he joined Pramac on a GP24 in 2024. But after a big crash in training before pre-season even began, he was sidelined from all of it and only back up to speed after a few race weekends. There were flashes of brilliance thereafter and a Sprint podium, but a new start at VR46 promises more. Back to full fitness and up to speed, he also stays on the GP24 – looking to leverage that experience as he joins the team fielded by the academy he’ s been part of since his early career.
Hij was de beste in zijn klasse in 2017, het jaar waarin Morbidelli de Moto2-titel won, en maakt ook indruk in de MotoGP, al zal hij popelen om zijn eerdere vorm in de klasse terug te veroveren. Na een tweede plaats in het titelgevecht in 2020 bij Yamaha, waren beide minder fortuinlijk en ging hij in 2024 naar Pramac op een GP24. Maar na een grote crash tijdens een training toen het voorseizoen nog moest beginnen, miste hij de hele voorbereiding en was hij pas na een paar raceweekends terug in het veld. Daarna reed hij bij vlagen briljant en behaalde hij een sprintpodium, maar een nieuwe start bij VR46 is veelbelovender. Morbidelli is weer helemaal fit en snel, en blijft bovendien op de GP24, in de hoop om die ervaring te benutten in het team van de VR46 Riders Academy waarvan hij al sinds vroeg in zijn carrière deel uitmaakt.
