Few riders have experienced the highs and lows of MotoGP™ in recent years quite like Joan Mir. At 21 years of age, the Majorcan became the seventh youngest rider in history to win a MotoGP™ title in 2020, just his second year in the class. A period of domination awaited.
Yet things didn’ t go to plan for Mir when he switched Suzuki machinery for Honda at the close of 2022. Through 2023 and 2024, he managed just one top ten finish. What’ s more he suffered 19 non scores, as his insistence to continue pushing the limits led to a run of crashes.
After those recent lows, there has been a rejuvenation of sorts. Both Mir and Honda have showed signs of the old magic in 2025, with the former champ scoring a best finish of seventh in Aragon, as well as two other top ten finishes in the first ten outings.
The expansion of Honda’ s test team, plus the addition of Romano Albesiano as Technical Manager, meant the RC213V was showing some serious potential.“ We reinforced a lot the test team, and now it’ s working OK,” said Mir.“ And we have the fuel of Romano inside the garage that creates a communication with the Japanese( engineers).

Vše však nešlo podle plánu, když na konci roku 2022 Joan Mir přešel ze Suzuki na Hondu. V letech 2023 a 2024 se mu podařilo dosáhnout pouze jednoho umístění v první desítce. Navíc zaznamenal 19 neúspěšných pokusů o bodování, přičemž jeho vytrvalost v překonávání limitů vedla k sérii pádů.
Po nedávném poklesu přišlo určité oživení. V roce 2025 Joan Mir i Honda ukázali známky své bývalé slávy. Bývalý šampion dosáhl nejlepšího umístění na sedmém místě v Aragonu a dalších dvou umístění v první desítce v prvních deseti závodech.
Rozšíření testovacího týmu Hondy a příchod Romana Albesiana na pozici technického manažera znamenaly, že model RC213V začal vykazovat značný potenciál. „ Výrazně jsme posílili testovací tým a nyní vše funguje dobře,“ řekl Mir. „ A v garáži máme Romana, který nám umožňuje komunikaci s Japonci( inženýry).“
