ith the emergence of Afro pop culture, Afrobeats and the celebration of African
heritage worldwide, being African has become a thing to be celebrated. Indeed a
lot of people are putting this aspect forward, speaking of 'black excellence'. This
article will speak of how being from Africa, adopting pan Africanism and having a good sense
of identity exponentially increases one's chances of being successful.
Thomas Wakiaga denes pan Africanism as an ideology that asserts and supports the
solidarity of Africans worldwide. Pan Africanism teaches about solidarity and unity and it
encourages people to be proud of who they are and where they come from.
Having a good sense of identity is unequivocally necessary for success and well-being

Success is said to be the sum of successes in several aspects of an individual's life -
professionally, emotionally and otherwise.
In my own opinion, success isn't only dependent on achievements but is a perspective a
person has of his or her own life. The most successful person could be one of the wealthy
business tycoons on Forbes' list like Kylie Jenner or Bill Gates just as it could be someone as
humble as Thomas Sankara. The difference is perspective.
One of the mistakes we make today is to think success is measured by quantiable
achievements like numerous degrees, several residences around the world, luxurious cars or
vacations to exotic places. God has gifted us with many abilities in life so we can make the best
out of it. However, in my opinion, a person does not need to possess a lot of material things
before he can be considered to be successful. With carefully curated social media pages
revealing only the more glamorous aspects of people's lives very often, some people get
frustrated when they see such activities and unconsciously put themselves in this 'silly rat race'
with others, a competition of sorts, which usually leads to nowhere.
