never watch you make a mistake without
warning you about it, and they will never
watch you take the wrong path and not try to
redirect you. They never withhold sensitive
information regarding an issue that affects
your life, they never tarnish your name behind
your back, and they will be the rst ones to
defend your name in public and confront you
in private.
I once had someone I considered a friend and
one time I decided to pursue a guy, my friend
let me, knowing fully well that this guy had
multiple girls. She kept this information from
me and when the inevitable heartbreak
occurred, she claimed that she had given me
hints and that she did not want to betray the
trust of the guy as they were friends at the
expense of my own feelings and wellbeing.
Real friends never stand by and let you get
hurt.
4. Good friends will make you feel good
about yourself
I don't mean that having friends validates your
status as a human being, I mean that good
friends remind you of your worth and they
make you a better person every day. They
never try to change you. A major red ag in
friendship is friends who try to change you to
t their own worldview or perception.
I expect my friends to love me for who I am and
they should never strive to bring my self-
esteem down. Another thing is that good
friends should always be happy about your
accomplishments and engage you in positive
competition.
Friends always apologize when they hurt or
offend you. Once you admit they have hurt
you it is their responsibility to apologize and
make it up to you. Good friends never turn the
situation on you and make you look like the
villain in the story; they apologize rst then
they air out their grievances.
Finally, no man is an island. at one time or the
other we all need friends, so choose them
wisely, as friends can either make you or break
you. Many great men owe their honor and
greatness to their friends and many owe their
failures to their friends so choose yours wisely.
