Telangana Irrigation & Water resources

The Telangana government is eager to complete 26 pending projects in Telangana in two years’ time. For the completion of these projects Rs 18,000 crores will be needed and it would help in irrigating 24 lakh acres of land in Telangana. The goverment promised to provide water for 10 lakh acres of land in every district and this has to be done at any cost.“ My government will allocate more than Rs 1 lakh crore for irrigation” says CM KCR prompting the irrigation experts to complete the works. There is a need to complete the Kalwakurthy lift irrigation scheme, Nettempadu lift irrigation scheme, Bheema lift irrigation project, Koilsagar lift irrigation project, Srisailam left bank canal( SLBC) and Devadula lift irrigation scheme on a war- footing. Stressing the need to take up new irrigation projects on Godavari river, the TRS chief said that there was a need take up projects such as Kanthanapally lift irrigation Project in Warangal district, Inchampalli project in Karimnagar and Pranahita-Chevella project. If anything is at stake for the Telangana Rashtra Samithi( TRS) government in the youngest State of the country for the next elections due in 2019, it is the execution of the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project( KLIP).
Why is Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project( KLIP) important?
Claimed to be the costliest irrigation project to be taken up by any State till date with an estimated cost of? 80,500 crore, the project holds the key to the TRS government’ s promise of providing irrigation facility to one crore acres of land under all projects / tanks. The government has already spent. 10,000 crore on the project, including land acquisition, and has allocated. 7,000 crore in the current budget, besides tying up a. 7,400 crore loan from a consortium of banks. Notwithstanding its share of controversies, particularly related to land acquisition for the Mallannasagar reservoir, one of the key components of the project for storage of 50 tmc ft water, the project is making swift progress.
