INTRODUCTION
THE SECOND METRO Most myths are probably connected with our metro. The most popular legend says that during Soviet times the second metro was built under ground at a depth of around one hundred meters in case war takes place again. You can get there just via the secret exit in the Moscow Kremlin and from some stations of Sokolnicheskaya metro line. Also it is said that food supply there will be enough even in case of a nuclear war. It is still unknown if it is truth or fiction.
HOUSE NO. 19 AND THE MYSTERIES OF MIASNITSKAYA STREET In the very center of Moscow in Miasnitskaya street there is a house No. 19( today the shop « Tea or coffee » is located there). This house was built in 1893 in Chinese style. According to the legend this house was designed in order to make an honored guest from China happy. This guest was Li Hunch Zhan, the ambassador and chancellor of the Chinese empire who came to Moscow on the occasion of coronation of the emperor Nikolai II. However, all the efforts were in vain and the Chinese guest stayed at the house of shop owner’ s brother. This house was located a little bit closer to the place of coronation. Actually, the original design has made the shop most recognizable one in Moscow and the trade went up. Today the granddaughter of the first owner of the house lives there. The first owner of the house was the tea-seller Srgei Perlov. There is one more interesting legend connected with Miasmitskaya Street. Long time ago there lived a greedy rich man Kusovnikov who was so much afraid to lose his property that he hid it in the most unexpected place— in the oven. His servant did not know about it and when his master was absent he decided to get warm in the house and accidentally he set all the savings on fire. It was told that every night the ghost of old Kusovnikov appears in the street searching for his treasures. However meeting him is not good, it will bring you financial difficulties.
THE UNSUCCESSFUL PROJECT OF BAZHENOV « Tsaritsyno » is one of the most beautiful places in Moscow which hides the mansion house of Catherine the Great in the shadowy park. This mansion house is designed in Russian gothic style. They say that its building required a lot of money that’ s why when the architect went beyond budget he added his own money believing that this house would be his best creation, although seeing the original construction Catherine ordered to ruin the building and leave just the base of it. After that she made Bazhenov’ s student Matvei Kazakov a new chief architect which cut Bazhenov deeper than knife.
