Cinch up for Man vs. Beast Rodeo

This year, the Man vs. Beast Rodeo in Little Falls is celebrating its 14th anniversary. What visitors and contestants can look forward to is a rodeo full of action, Saturday, Sept. 19, and Sunday, Sept. 20, at the Morrison County Fairgrounds in Little Falls.
Each year, JoJo Wagner, who hosts the annual event with her dad, Joe Varner, brings a main act. This year’ s act Tim“ Whild Thang” Leopard and Team Ghost Riders, which features live capuchin monkeys by their own will riding Border Collies herding sheep.
Continuously striving to make each year’ s event even better than the one before, Wagner encourages people to check out the Man vs. Beast Rodeo. It truly is like no other rodeo, she said. It is also a statement that is backed up by the Minnesota Rodeo Association as it has named the Man vs. Beast Rodeo Rodeo of the Year nine times.
“ We couldn’ t do it without our amazing sponsors and spectators. If you haven’ t been to the Man vs. Beast, mark it in your calendar. Come early to get your seat and check out the amazing vendors,” Wagner said.
The main performance begins at 4 p. m. on both days. Visitors will have the opportunity to enjoy a wide variety of events, such as bareback riding, breakaway roping, calf roping, steer wrestling, saddle bronc, team roping, barrel racing, bull riding, mule riding and a wild pony race.
Besides the 120 or so contestants during the main performance, Wagner said the rodeo attracts an additional
300 or so contestants that compete from morning until the afternoon. Afterward is mutton busting, an event in which about 100 children, weighing 50 pounds and under, ride a sheep. Whoever stays on the longest wins the event. The mutton busting event will be held at 3:15 p. m. on both days.
Tickets will be sold on site and can be pre-purchased at Litke Veterinary Clinic in Pierz.
