Upsala Heritage Day: Celebrating community
The folks in Upsala welcome all to join in celebrating this year’ s Heritage Day with the theme of“ 70s, 80s and Beyond.” The event is kicked off the Monday before when the Medallion Hunt begins, Monday, Aug. 3. Clues will be posted on the Upsala City website www. cityofupsala. com and at area businesses.
While all of the festivities are held Saturday, Aug. 8, a family summer bash will be held at the City Park, Wednesday, Aug. 5, at 6 p. m. The Upstage Junior Theater Camp will also present“ Madagascar Jr” Friday, Aug. 7, at 7 p. m. at the Upsala Area Schools auditorium. Another performance is planned for Saturday, Aug. 8, at 10 a. m.
Saturday, Aug. 8 begins with registering at the Upsala High School at 8 a. m. to participate in the 5K run / walk, followed by a 3v3 Basketball Tournament. The Borgstrom House by the Borgstrom Park will also be open from noon to 3 p. m.
The events for the afternoon are kicked off at 4 p. m. with the Upsala Heritage Day parade, which is historically one of the largest parades in the area.
After the parade, beginning about 5 p. m., fun for the whole family will continue in the city park. The park will be filled with activities for every age, such as a mechanical bull, face painting, kids’ games and inflatables and a minitature golf course.
New to Upsala Heritage Day is the Pine Grove Zoo, which will give visitors a live, hands-on wildlife experience and an opportunity to learn, explore and connect with conservation.
At 8 p. m. Chopper, the world’ s nuttiest Dj, will provide music, followed by the Upsala Ballpark Association raffle at 9 p. m. and ending the evening with fireworks at 9:30 p. m.
