RECIPE OF THE MONTH
SPAGHETTI BOLOGNESE
Serves 4
Ingredients:
2 onions,
1tbsp olive oil
3 cloves garlic
½tbsp dried basil
½tbsp dried oregano
pinch salt, black pepper
3tbsp tomato puree
450g (1lb) lean mince
2 tins chopped tomatoes
400g (13oz) spaghetti
grated Parmesan (optional)
Method:
Peel and finely chop the onions. Heat the olive oil in a large pan on a medium heat and slowly soften the onions, taking care that they don’t burn.
Once softened, add the garlic, basil, oregano, salt, pepper and tomato puree to the pan and cook over a medium heat for a few minutes, stirring constantly.
Add the mince and fry until it is all browned and well combined. Add the chopped tomatoes and bring the mixture to the boil. Reduce to a low heat and simmer for 1½ hours.
Bring a large pan of salted water to the boil and cook the spaghetti according to the packet instructions. Serve out and top with the sauce. Add grated Parmesan and garlic bread if desired.
Cook’s tip:
If you buy fresh mince, you can make the sauce and freeze any extra for another meal. All you will have to do is cook more spaghetti! Watch the video now(recipe may vary)
