Recently, I spent the morning of Thanksgiving helping a
friend decorate his restaurant for the December holidays.
Pumpkin pie for breakfast – yum! And then, salvaging the
remnants of my sugar high, I was ready to help decorate the
tree.
I mean, we hadn’t even sat down to give thanks and enjoy a
nice turkey dinner. And maybe it was rushing things a bit, but
in a way it felt right. I felt like one of Santa’s elves behind
the scenes preparing for the unveiling of the season. So, it
felt right. A combining of the seasons – Thanksmas!
Besides, I wasn’t planning to decorate a tree of my own this
year, helping him out was definitely calling out to the kid in
me.
In the spirit of future holidays shortly after moving, I planted
a little Blue Spruce in my garden. I was hoping it was going
to be my holiday tree. Unfortunately, the needles began to
brown and shed until all that was left was… very little. Then
the realization dawned - here was my own Charlie Brown
tree.
