I remember watching Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Mr. Wonka, Charlie, and his grandfather get into the Great Glass Wonka Vator. Mr. Wonka says “I’ve pressed every button but one. Go ahead Charlie.” The elevator jolts and starts to rise. Mr. Wonka says faster, faster or we’ll never get through the top. Charlie’s grandfather says, “But it’s a glass ceiling. We’ll be cut to shreds.” He and Charlie both look terrified. But the elevator keeps rising higher and higher, faster, and faster, until they burst out the top glass soaring above trees and the town. This is where Mr. Wonka presents Charlie with the Chocolate Factory for his own. He pauses looking intently and says, “But Charlie, don’t forget what happened to the man who got everything he ever wanted.” “What happened?” asked Charlie. “He lived happily every after,” Mr. Wonka replies. So maybe the fairy tale of “happily every after” does exist when we let go of our fears and allow ourselves to have it all. “Don’t be afraid”… The wind picked up and I pulled my coat around me a little tighter. The setting sun was gently shining on my face as I headed back home ready to put my fairy wings on and believe in myself. After all, fairies do grant wishes! So, “Don’t be afraid”… Go ahead and push the button you haven’t pushed before. You just never know what awaits you past the glass ceiling. May your wishes come true!
