�iane Sanfilippo says that she really , really loves food . That makes this fit nutritionist good advertising for her many business ventures , which revolve around balanced , well-sourced meals . “ While mybooks have dietary considerations , they ’ re not �diet ’ books ,” she says . “ You won ’ t go hungry following myplans . Iam half-Italian and from New Jersey , after all� ” She is referring to her bestselling book , �ractical �aleo , aswell as �eto ��ic��tart , ��e ����ay ��gar �eto� , ��e ����ay ��gar �eto� �oo�boo� , and Mediterranean �aleo �oo�ing , which she coauthored .
But writing books is just one of the avenues Sanfilippo takes to get her message out . Over the past 1� years , she has coached clients , created awebsite and blog , and launched product lines and abusiness called Balance Bites that prepares and distributes meals �first locally , and then again on anational scale . Sanfilippo , aWest Caldwell native , currently hosts educational workshops and webinars , and runs aretail shop in San �rancisco , where she now lives . She can be heard weekly on �ri�en , her podcast about entrepreneurship .

BALANCED BITES
“ As an athlete , I was always interested in how nutrition fueled our bodies , and how the balance of what we ’ re eating �protein , carbs , and fat �contributes toour health ,” says Sanfilippo .
In early �008 , she was cooking casual meals for her friends , balancing their carbs , fats , minerals and vitamins and adding more protein than commonly offered in other meal services . At the same time , she skipped the gluten and unnecessary additives such as sugar and artificial ingredients .
Based on all her positive feedback , she decided to turn her hobby into a business . She applied for and received a food safety certification , rented commercial kitchen space two days aweek in �meryville , California , and officially opened her business , Balanced Bites .
She cooked meals and delivered them to individual clients around San �rancisco , and dropped cooler bags off at adowntown gym for people to pick up after their training sessions . She included prepared items like salads , hard-boiled eggs , and fresh spring rolls in the cooler for graband-go options as well .
“ Running Balanced Bites as a meal business back then was a blast , but it left me feeling totally burnt out ,” she says . “ I felt that I wasn ’ t really
