THE LIVING ROOM AS LOUNGE
There’s something for every family member to love in this living room. “We didn’t want it to look
too masculine, so we put in a Turkish rug over-dyed in purple to keep it softer,” says Bridget. Adults
can bring a glass of Scotch in from the kitchen and unwind in the evening, she says; they won’t find
refills in the brass-topped bar (inset), because its shelves are empty; if it’s stocked with anything, it’s
the occasional toy for the kids, who like to hide behind it. The furniture is from Restoration Hardware,
which offered the irresistible option of upholstering with bleachable outdoor fabric. The family found
the tree at Alstede Farms in Chester and decorated it, topping it with a star that the kids love —
though their favorite ornaments are reserved for the “memory tree” near their bedrooms upstairs.
