GOING ONCE, GOING TWICE …
With three sons under age six, the Williamses were looking for a home that was bigger than their Applegate Farm-area digs. The new construction they set their sights on was built on a subdivided property in a highly-trafficked part of the South End, and offered more space and amenities at a better price than anything they’ d seen in their old neighborhood. When the original buyer couldn’ t finishthe project, a second contractor came and designed it to his specifications with the intention of moving in, then decided that the location was too far removedfrom extended family. He hired Max Spann Real Estate & Auction Co. in Annendale to sell the house to the highest bidder, which they did on aweeknight at the Residence Inn in West Orange.
“ My husband signed for itthat night,” says Sarah Williams.“ We had aweek to find an inspector, do awalk-through and test everything. But wewere the first ones to get inthere and use these new bells and whistles we’ d purchased.” These include the wine cellar, steam room with sauna and master bedroom with fireplace; the“ very open” floor plan allows Williams to cook dinner while watching the kids play in the family room. Anotherbonus: The longtime neighbors, including the property owner who divided herenormous yard, are happy to offer information about local resources. ➤
