7 . IMPACT OF THE SOCIAL IMPACT PROJECT

7.1 Impact to Students 7.1.1 Building Future Change makers
Through the SIP , students were exposed to various issues in the business environment through workshops by industry experts , guest speakers and having first-hand exposure to ideating solutions for their Host Companies who are our industry partners .
Qualitative Feedback :
“ This project is beyond just an assignment , it gives us an opportunity to understand the environment and the society where there are so many people out there who need help ”
This helped to close the industry and academia gap , giving students more confidence to thrive in the workforce , and providing them with clarity on how they can kick start their career . Additionally , students had a deeper understanding of key issues linked to the SDG , and how each stakeholder in the ecosystem can play a role in helping to advance the SDGs for a sustainable future .
The programme ’ s impact towards building future change makers through action learning was evident in the Feedback Survey that was conducted to ascertain student satisfaction . The following are the results of the feedback given by the students to questions posed in the Survey .
Quantitative Feedback :
“ I have always thought that gender inequality only exists in poor and underdeveloped areas . But after learning about the SDGs and doing relevant research , I realised it also happens within my society . I have never experienced gender inequality before but am motivated to empower youths to improve gender equality in Malaysia ”
“ Really grateful to be able to gain hands-on experience in real-life businesses who are advancing the SDGs ! Honoured to be a part of this !”
“ This project has taught me many incredible things . I became passionate about business sustainability , and am convinced to act on it in the near future ”

99 % of the participants stated that the Social Impact Project shaped them to think about the impact of business decisions on the environment and community .
“ Honestly , taking BEW3001 and doing the Social Impact Project was the best decision I made . It is amazing , and taught me lessons that really changed who I am as a person for the better , shaping my values and purpose . I am constantly inspired by Ms Priya , Charis , Radhika , the mentors , and my team members and I could not have asked for a better experience ”

93 % of the participants stated that the Social Impact Project gave them a better idea of what is expected in the workforce .

86 % of the participants agree that all business students should complete a Social Impact Project prior to graduation .
