Haghighat patent, talks Professor Alireza Haghighat filed a provisional U.S. patent for RAPID Particle Transport Meth- odology for Real-time Simulation of Nuclear Systems. Tarazaga at Rutgers, with students at IMAC Associate Professor Pablo Tarazaga, John R. Jones III Faculty Fellow, took a dozen students to Florida in February for the Soci- ety of Experimental Mechanics, IMAC XXXVI Conference. Tarazaga Tarazaga gave a presentation at the Rut- gers University as part of the Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering Colloquium Series in January. His talk was: "Have You Talked to Your Building Lately? A Few Ideas of What Can be Leveraged From an Instrumented Building." Sandu in Romania Professor Corina Sandu gave a keynote lecture on Highlights of the Higher Education System in the U.S. at the 2017 International Sandu Congress of Automotive and Transport Engineering, Mobility Engineering and Environment in Pitesti, Romania. She contributed two presentations: "Real-Time Parameter Estimation for Vehicle Systems;" and "Robust Design Optimization and Optimal Uncertainty Apportionment for Nonlinear Vehicle Systems." She also chaired two sessions at the conference organized by SIAR, the Society of Automotive Engineers of Romania, of which she is a member. MOMENTUM SPRING 2018 Haghighat Haghighat gave a talk, "Creation of a Collaborative Virtual Reality System" at the Web3D Consortium, Users Group Meeting. He also gave a talk in conjunction with the Department of Physics as part of a site visit to the North Anna Generating Station, Virginia to discuss the project to develop the CHAN- DLER Reactor Neutrino Detector Technology for a Sterile Neutrino Search. Cheng proposal approved A proposal by Associate Pro- fessor Jiangtao Cheng, titled "Investigation of Droplet Impact on Soft Materials and Engineered Surfaces," has been accepted by the Cheng Center for Nanophase Materials Sciences at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. The proposal period begins Feb. 1 and will allow Cheng to use cleanroom facilities to do advanced fabrication. Students earn fellowships Doctoral students Fatemeh Yazdan- doost and Mohamad Ghodrati, received the Davenport Ghodrati Fellowship, and Pratt Yazdandoost Fellowship, respec- tively. The pair work as part of the MultiScale Mechanics of Advanced Materials Laboratory and are advised by Assistant Professor Reza Mirzaeifar. PAGE 8
