Lackawanna Bar Association unveils new location

A staple of the downtown Scranton business community for more than 125 years has recently moved into a new headquarters , allowing it to further serve not only the legal profession , but also the general public .
Now located at 233 Penn Avenue in Scranton , the Lackawanna Bar Association was founded in 1890 with the goal of promoting professional excellence in the legal profession , as well as that of facilitating access to legal services . Hosting a number of educational seminars , events and activities annually , the association desires to help the community better understand the legal profession and help practicing lawyers improve their craft .
“ Despite the inherently dangerous nature of their jobs , an overwhelmingly large number of first responders do not have wills ,” Munley said . “ Pennsylvania has more volunteer first responders than any other state . Recognizing this significant number , volunteer attorneys prepare notarized documents , wills , living wills , health care directives and powers of attorney free of charge once a year during our Wills for Heroes event .”
“ Attorneys that are licensed to practice law in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania must complete a minimum of 12 hours of continuing legal education each year , including two hours of ethics ,” explained Lee Ann Munley , executive director . “ Last year , the association offered 35 hours of free continuing legal education through these programs and educational partnerships in the community .”
Community events hosted by the Lackawanna Bar Association include People ’ s Law School and Wills for Heroes .
