According to Nielsen, radio advertising has emerged as and
continues to be the number one audience reach medium in
America. AM/FM radio reaches 93 percent of Americans weekly,
which is more than any other media outlet—including television
and the internet. Radio advertising also ranks fi rst in return on
investment and it is the only growing and thriving traditional mass
reach medium today. This month, Kimberlee Greenleaf, a senior
account executive with Entercom Communications, explains why
radio is a breakthrough opportunity for advertisers.
What makes radio such a powerful platform for
advertisers?
Only radio is live, local and personal. It is America’s number
one reach medium and it’s the best in local activation and
engagement, based on radio’s strength against other media to
engage and interact with fans in real time and its proven power of
persuasion demonstrated by a higher return on investment than
competitive media according to a Nielsen study.
Why is radio advertising so powerful?
Radio advertising is a uniquely human medium of storytelling,
entertainment and personal connection. Radio also has an
emotional connection to the audience that no other medium can
duplicate.

What are people saying about the current state of radio?
Forbes Magazine published an article saying that the number
of radio listeners worldwide is “staggering.” When he was
advocating for radio, Sir Richard Branson said that “People want
personality, local insight and a feeling of connection—all qualities
great deejays on radio stations can share, and streaming sites
can’t replicate.” The New York Times even said that more adults
use AM and FM radio than any other form of media. Simply put,
people crave connection and radio delivers.
What are radio’s benefi ts for local advertisers?
Radio advertising provides access to a massive, loyal audience,
as well as targeted local engagement and activation. It also
provides unparalleled, measurable results on a growing and
thriving infl uence platform.
