WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO START YOUR BUSINESS?
Dan Schreffler
In 2010, I successfully went through treatment for cancer. That type of life
event leaves you thinking about how you want to spend the rest of your time
on this planet. I have always enjoyed making mead (honey wine). Local options
were limited before the craft beer golden age we are in now, so if you wanted
something different you needed to make it yourself. I fell in love with making
my own beer, wine, mead, and cider. Mead was a perfect beverage for me to
make — the history, lore, taste, and challenge to make it well became a passion.
Awards for the quality of what I was making, coupled with 26 years of business
acumen having worked for a Fortune 500 company, gave me the confidence and
knowledge to make mead making my vocation.

As a business, we have access to high-quality ingredients produced and grown
here, such as apple and pear juice, honey, fruit, world-class coffee roasters,
and chocolatiers, among others. Personally, I love living and working here
because of the natural beauty, entertaining seasons, the growth, the vibrant
arts and culture scene, the walkable communities that Dunmore and Scranton
are, awesome food, good people that take pride in their work, and the growing
focus on wellness.
WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO JOIN THE CHAMBER?
We joined because of the opportunities to network and learn. The Chamber
appears to be the right organization for us to draw on as we work through our
initial years building out our winery, and one we can partner with in later phases.
