Greater Scranton YMCA
Peoples Security Bank & Trust recently donated $6,000 to the Greater Scranton
YMCA in support of their Summer Learning Loss Prevention and Third Grade Swim
programs. The Summer Learning Loss Prevention program is open to children
entering first and second grades at Mid Valley Elementary School who may need
additional assistance with their reading skills. The Third Grade Swim program
provides a free session of swim lessons to third graders in the YMCA’s service area.

The Wright Center for Community Health has
been designated as a Federally Qualified
Health Center Look-Alike (FQLA) by the Health
Resources and Services Administration (HRSA).
This designation is a result of the organization’s
pursuit of and commitment to providing high-
quality, accessible, safety-net healthcare services
in northeastern Pennsylvania. As detailed by
HRSA, FQLAs ensure health care for the Nation’s
underserved communities and vulnerable
populations through service provision to all,
regardless of ability to pay.

Horizon Dental Hosts 14th Annual “Dentistry from the Heart”
Horizon Dental Care’s Hawley location recently hosted its 14th annual
“Dentistry from the Heart” event, which provides free dentistry to those in
need. More than 217 patients were provided dental cleanings, fillings, and/
or extractions, free of charge. More than 70 volunteers, including dentists,
hygienists, assistants, dental office staff, and community volunteers
participated in the event.
Derek F. Fozard of Scranton has been
announced as the Assistant Director of
Public Safety at Lackawanna College. He
will be responsible for the daily operations
of the Public Safety Department including
patrol staff, investigations, the Lackawanna
College Parking Program, and will assist with
special events. He was previously employed
at Villanova University, where he worked as a
patrol sergeant. He is a 1991 graduate of the
Pennsylvania State Police Academy.
