When did you know you wanted to be a mom? To be honest: I liked the IDEA of being a Mum and my first pregnancy was actually unexpected. SURPRISE! When Ben was some 3 years old I physically felt for another child. When I saw babies or heard them crying, I was drawn to them, wanted to hold them. We then planned our 2nd pregnancy and 6 weeks later Zoe was conceived.
What was the hardest thing about being a mother? The most rewarding? The hardest thing was the breastfeeding and the sleep deprivation. Having lost all privacy and having no control over life as such anymore. And the tremendous realisation of this huge responsibility to have to raise this venerable tiny creature who does not know any better. That was hard! I take great joy in seeing my kids having healthy interactions with others, laughing, excelling. I also take pride in people complementing me on my kids behavior and attitude. I love to cuddle with them. It is bitter sweet to see them become more and more independent. Independence is the greatest gift we can give our kids.
If you could go back in time to any period in history, where would you go and why?
(To the heydays of Studio 54… don’t print that!!!) I would want to back to the years of my early childhood to protect and comfort myself and to tell myself that everything is going to be ok. Like a big sister, guiding my younger sibling.
What question would you ask your mother? Why did you not love me?
If you could instantly have one new skill (i.e. foreign language, musical talent, public speaking, etc.), what would it be?
All of the above, every language there is, plus singing, dancing, reading Braille, sign language. I like to communicate effectively with the world around me and truly understand people.
When did you know you had found the one? When I looked in David’s eyes guessing what our kids may look like.
