FROM THE MUSEUM

Magazine History : The magazine was conceived by Douglas Mehrens with the simple idea that with the growing popularity of the encaustic / wax medium there should be a magazine dedicated to it . As other small publishers have found , print magazines are cost-prohibitive . The digital ( online ) venue allows us to make the magazine affordable and available worldwide . The first editor , Michael Phillip Pearce , an artist and designer , brought the magazine to fruition . Kim Mehrens then volunteered to step in as we searched for a full-time editor . Kari Gorden took over in 2013 . Her expertise as both a designer and encaustic artist , as well as her attention to detail and collaborative spirit make her the perfect fit . The Encaustic Arts Magazine is a separate entity from the Museum of Encaustic Art , and both are under the 501c3 Encaustic Art Institute .
