make sure legal advice is practical, actionable, and responsive to what the business is trying to achieve.
“ Operating globally requires both strong technical expertise and cultural awareness. We rely on a combination of internal knowledge, local counsel, and cross-functional collaboration.
“ In addition, we recognize that effective solutions need to account for local business practices and expectations, not just legal requirements.” Taking the time to understand regional perspectives leads to better outcomes and stronger relationships.

Team and judgment
The team looks for opportunities to streamline routine tasks like standardizing processes, accelerating first drafts, making information more accessible.“ That helps the team operate more efficiently and with greater consistency,” Dan notes, before drawing a line around how those tools are used.
“ Confidentiality, governance and ethics are paramount.“ We’ re careful about how tools are deployed, how data is handled, and how outputs are validated. Human and legal judgment and accountability remain with the team.“ When those pieces are in place, technology becomes an enabler, it improves how we work without changing the standards we apply.”
Inside his team, Dan focuses on alignment, ownership, and giving people a seat at the table.“ I’ ve been more deliberate in putting more structure around how we share context. We have regular touchpoints, clearer ownership, and greater transparency on priorities. That way, the team stays aligned, even as individuals get more deeply involved with their stakeholders.
“ We’ ve been focusing on making sure insights from one area of the business carry over to others.” The result is a team that’ s more proactive, practical, and better integrated into how decisions get made.
That structure gives people real autonomy.“ I set expectations around the outcome. I don’ t feel the need to dictate the path to get there. If the approach is reasonable, thoughtful, and it works, that’ s what matters,” he shares.“ It tends to produce stronger results because people take more ownership and are invested in what happens.”
For Dan’ s team, exposure to senior leadership conversations builds context and sharpens the delivery of advice.“ I place a lot of value on communicating effectively with non-legal audiences. The job isn’ t just to spot issues; it’ s to explain them in a way that’ s clear, practical, and tied to what the business is trying to accomplish.” Part of that is being willing to step outside a narrow legal lens,“ understanding the business more broadly and offering perspectives on strategy, not just risk.
“ I remember my junior attorney days, working through issues where I felt confident I had the‘ right’ legal answer.” But in conversations that followed,“ it became clear that clients weren’ t really looking for a technical answer; they were trying to figure out what to do next. That shifted how I think about the role; from focusing on getting the analysis exactly right to helping frame the decision and the tradeoffs in a way that’ s useful.”
