CMA ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING NEW-LOOK LANDMARKS The Annual General Meeting will be held on Wednesday 28 October 2015 in Pietermaritzburg. 2015 SPIRIT OF COMRADES AWARDS Every year since 1996, the CMA has been honouring amazing individuals for showcasing the spirit of Comrades at its flagship awards gala, the Old Mutual Spirit of Comrades Awards Evening, which will be hosted on Friday 23 October and will once again showcase select individuals for their very human attributes of selflessness, dedication, perseverance and Ubuntu, combined with their love for The Ultimate Human Race. The Old Mutual Spirit of Comrades Award is presented to a maximum of three people per year and recipients of the award will receive a one-ounce, 24-carat gold medallion. DIARISE GREATER EDENDALE 10KM Runners in the KwaZulu-Natal area are reminded to diarise Sunday 15 November for the eighth running of the Greater Edendale Race 10km & 5km, hosted in the community of Edendale, Pietermaritzburg. This beautiful community race will incorporate the AIMS Children’s Series Race and promises to be a fun-filled day, with the goal of the event being to expose young people to the joys and benefits of running while also providing them with a tangible opportunity to be a part of the greater Comrades Marathon experience. Last year, more than 500 children converged on the George Cato Primary School to participate in the third edition of the local leg of the AIMS Children Series Race, which has been hosted by the CMA in South Africa since 2012. All participants will receive T-shirts and medals, and the children are also provided with refreshments and goodies, in addition to amazing lucky draw prizes. Last month we unveiled the upgraded Comrades Marathon landmarks on the race route at Drummond (the halfway point), Polly Shortts, Arthur’s Seat and at the Wall of Honour, and now we’d love to hear your feedback on these new landmarks – please e-mail your thoughts to delaine@comrades.com. As part of this process, the Comrades Marathon Wall of Honour is still in the process of being upgraded, because nearly half the 4000 runner plaques have been damaged or become worn out over the years since the Wall was first built in the mid-1980’s. THANK YOU ONCE AGAIN! The CMA would like to take this opportunity to once again thank our four major sponsors, Bonitas, Fruttare, Nedbank and Old Mutual, for making the annual Comrades Marathon Underprivileged Runners Project such a huge success in 2015. Nearly 700 needy runners benefited from this generous initiative, being housed at the YMCA in Pietermaritzburg on the weekend of the race and receiving scrumptious meals prepared by the Community Chest Team from groceries sponsored by Checkout Supermarkets. After the race, all the blankets and mattresses were donated by the CMA through the Community Chest of Pietermaritzburg to scores of community-based organisations in Pietermaritzburg and surroundings. SHARE YOUR COMRADES STORY If something interesting or wonderful happened to you during your Comrades Marathon run, we’d like to hear your story.
