he first time I met Jacques Conradie was
in a trail race near Grabouw just over
a year ago, when I found myself running
just behind him near the back of the pack shortly
after the start. I commented on his brightly
coloured rainbow socks, since Jacques is so
tall (and I am so short) that his calves were
pretty much at eye-level for me, and he peered
downwards to see where this voice was coming
from after looking behind him and seeing nothing
but the trail. We were soon laughing uproariously
at various jokes and running stories, and we’ve
been chatting at races ever since.

we received in support of the campaign, as well
as comments with ideas to work on the litter
problem in road running, but keep in mind that
these are just some of the comments. There were
plenty more, and in the coming months we will
continue to highlight this campaign in an effort to
clean up the sport.

Over the next few months I often found myself
passing him a few kays into trail runs, as I always
start slowly and enjoy a good chat with various
running friends before kick
