SUBSTITUTIONS OPEN
IN APRIL
Comrades Marathon runners who were unable
to enter the 2015 Comrades Marathon during
the official entry period from 1 September to 30
November 2014 now have an opportunity to still
participate in the world’s biggest ultra-marathon
via the official 2015 Substitution process between
1 and 21 April 2015. This allows for a runner who
has not entered to substitute in for an entrant who
wants to withdraw from the race. This option was
introduced in 2012 to wide acclaim and now forms
part of the CMA’s official race rules.
The completed application forms must reach
the CMA office by 21 April, and there will be no
extension of this deadline. Athletes intending to
submit Substitution applications must download
the forms from www.comrades.com, and you’ll also
find a comprehensive list of rules and regulations
which govern the Substitution process.
THUMBS UP FOR WOMEN SEMINARS
Our Comrades lady runners are raving about the Cape Town, Johannesburg, Pretoria and
Durban legs of the Old Mutual Comrades Women Seminars that were held in January and
February, and now the final seminar will take place in Nelspruit on Saturday 7 March, at the
Southern Sun Emnotweni Hotel in Government Boulevard, Riverside Park. It starts at 10am,
and a delicious breakfast is part of the deal, as well as amazing lucky draw prizes from the
CMA’s technical footwear and apparel partner, New Balance. Added to that, one lucky runner
stands the chance of winning a New Balance Top to Toe hamper worth R5000!
These women-specific seminars offer three hours of gripping presentations from the
Comrades Coach, Lindsey Parry and a panel comprising a sports psychologist, medical doctor
and nutritionist, and the sessions are fun, interactive and packed with expert advice tailormade for the ultra-runner. As CMA Marketing Coordinator, Thami Vilakazi says, “Our aim is for
all ladies taking part in this year’s Comrades Marathon to be adequately
prepared for it. At these women-specific seminars, they are empowered
with the technical and professional support that they require to train well
and run a good race on 31 May.”
Tickets for the Nelspruit seminar are R75 per person (breakfast
included), but there are just 100 seats, so bookings are
essential at https://secure.onreg.com/onreg2/front/step1.
