LIVING LIFE TO THE FULLEST! I did it! My first international full Ironman, in Mallorca! Can you believe it, after my serious falls and injuries over the past year-and-a-half, I kept my faith and my belief in living life to the fullest! I felt like a celebrity, as there were only a handful of South Africans in an event where 2800 athletes lined up at the start, representing quite a few countries such as Spain, France, Germany, Switzerland and the United Kingdom, to name a few. I finished feeling like a champion and the highlight was to run down the finish line with my South African flag flying beside me! I was so proud of being a South African and the supporting crowd and announcers went crazy, cheering, congratulations and supporting this African girl!! – Michelle Joseph, Johannesburg Congrats, Michelle, and sweet memories! – Ed. I am a 29-year-old man who has just arrived back from his deathbed. I am HIV Positive, and I have been living with HIV knowingly for five years. I was once hospitalised for a month for some infection, and I couldn’t walk for a week, but I started from learning how to walk again at the age of 25, and then I began to run, and since then I have never stopped. I have enjoyed road running, as I felt the healing the first time I ran, and I felt strong after my first race. I have continued running ever since, even when I feel low, because running brings my spirit up. In 2012 I also lost my father and my mother in the same year, and running helped me heal. So I have this advice for the whole nation: Let’s be a running nation and we shall live longer. I am a living testimony and I refuse to be bed-bound.
