RECORD
INCENTIVES
In a first for SA roadrunning, R1.5-million
is up for grabs to the
first man and woman
respectively to break
the current male and
female up-run records.
This makes the
Comrades Marathon
by far the most
lucrative race on the
local athletics scene. Leonid Shvetsov holds
the male up-run record of 5:24:47 for his 2008
win, while Elena Nurgalieva’s 2006 victory in a
time of 6:09:24 stands as the female up-run
record.
COME MEET THE CMA TEAM
The Comrades Marathon marketing team will be at the following
qualifying events to explain the entry system, distribute entry forms
and attend to any queries that you may have regarding the
Comrades Marathon:
7 September: Gauteng Marathon, Johannesburg Stadium
19-20 September: Cape Town City Marathon Expo, The Lookout,
Granger Bay
28 September: City to City Marathon, Centurion Rugby Club
The first man and woman to cross the finish
line will receive R375,000 each, and the total
prize money for the 2015 Comrades Marathon
is R2.6-million – and that’s not counting the
R1.5-million incentives for the course records.

GREEN AWARDS FOR
COMMUNITY MARSHALS
The CMA recently hosted its 2014 Community
Marshals’ Green Name Awards function at
Comrades House in Pietermaritzburg, to
recognise the community marshals who have
been of service to the Comrades Marathon for
10 years now. Consisting of a 100-strong team,
the Comrades Marathon Community Marshals
Programme was implemented by the CMA in
2005 in response to a need for greater runner
safety. Since then, this special band of people
has ensured the safe passage of Comrades
Marathon runners along the Comrades route
from Cato Ridge to Inchanga.
These do-gooders have performed their duties
with pride and a deep sense of responsibility
for the safety and protection of Comrades
runners along this stretch of the route. The
CMA has in turn provided training and support
for this dedicated marshalling team on an
annual basis in the run up to the race, and
thanks to such training and skills transf
