The Pezula Field of Dreams in Knysna proved a happy
hunting ground for reigning Totalsports XTERRA
champs as Dan Hugo and Carla van Huyssteen
claimed top step on the podium.
Reigning Totalsports XTERRA SA Champ Dan Hugo celebrated a hat-trick of
2014 XTERRA SA event wins as he claimed the win in Knysna in a deserving
time of 1 hour 32 minutes 42 seconds. Stuart Marais took second spot on the
podium, followed by Bradley Weiss in third. “I am currently at the end of a
racing block, so today’s race hurt a lot. It literally felt like I was hanging on by
a few strings, but I am having the greatest year,” said Dan. “I am also happy to
have won all three Totalsports XTERRA SA events this year.”
Carla van Huyssteen was uncatchable.

In the women’s race, reigning Totalsports XTERRA Pezula women’s
champion Carla van Huyssteen successfully defended her title in an
impressive time of 1:55:53. Afterwards, she said the route was tough
but amazing. “You’re kept on your toes at all times. It’s a hard run, a
hard bike, a hard run, and coming back as the defending champion, you
know what to expect, you know what pain lies ahead… but then crossing
the finish line first is always a great feeling.” Hanlie Booyens was home
second, with Esther Lategan third.
Michael Lord claimed victory in the men’s XTERRA Lite, followed by Harrie
Malan and Eben Kruger. The women’s title went to Jessica Alcock, with
