Balwin Sport Marathon Series . As a result , for the first time in its history , the race was sold out before the online closing date !
As organiser of this iconic event , it certainly presents some unique challenges , largely due to its point-to-point route . Over 450 marshals and 105 traffic officials were required to ensure the safety of the runners , and 25 busses were booked to transport more than 2200 runners to their respective starts , or back to their cars after the race . It took months of planning and an inordinate number of meetings with a variety of stakeholders to execute a race that was both memorable and financially viable .
Llyod Bosman ( 2:22:25 ) and Adele Broodryk ( 2:46:46 ), both from the Nedbank Running Club , triumphed in the men ’ s and women ’ s marathon races respectively , both winners happily receiving their R12,000 winner ’ s cheques . In the half marathon , William Kaptein and Fortunate Chidzivo , both from Tymebank Langa took home the gold medals and R6000 each for their efforts , with winning times of 1:06:59 and 1:19:19 respectively . All the runners were well looked after at 14 refreshment stations in the marathon ( seven of which doubled up for the half marathon ) and were entertained along the way , culminating in a world-class performance by the SA Navy Band at the 41km mark .

Their incredible support , including signing on for a 10-year sponsorship period , bodes well for the future of both the race and the series ! Also thanks to the presenting club , Celtic Harriers , the Series Race Directors , Western Province Athletics , our service providers , and all the marshals and volunteers who sacrificed their time and skills to make this event a success .
Lastly , thank you to all the participants who lined up , and we hope that each one of you achieved your respective goals . Work has already begun for next year , and we hope to see you on the starting line in 2025 .
