JEPPE KICKS OFF NEW NATIONAL SERIES

The 38 th edition of the Balwin Sport Jeppe Marathon took place on Sunday 11 February in Johannesburg , with just on 4000 runners and walkers tackling the various scenic routes through the suburbs of Bedfordview and Edenvale . As Race Director Bruce Kingof presenting club Jeppe Quondam Athletics writes , it was great to kick off the new four-race Balwin Sport Marathon Series with this long-time Jozi favourite .

After some 40 years on the Central Gauteng race calendar , the Balwin Sport Jeppe Marathon has become an annual must-do race for many runners . Race day gives athletes a little bit of everything : A tough 42km or 21km , as well as a 10km race and a 5km fun run around Senderwood . The marathon course is a two-lapper around Bedfordview and Edenvale , starting off with a tough first 10km that features several inclines , but it ’ s the downhill past Gillooly ’ s Farm in the last stretch that everyone looks forward to !

This year ’ s Jeppe Marathon was the first race in the new Balwin Sport Marathon Series , which is an initiative of Balwin Sport , a division of the hugely successful Balwin Properties Group . This sponsorship ties in with Balwin Sport ’ s ethos of healthy living and healthy lifestyles , which is why the company has decided to become the headline sponsor of four iconic events across the country and establish the first national marathon series in South Africa for many , many years .
