More than R1.5 million in prize money , record incentives for local runners and Chery cars to be won at each of the five races , here is all the latest news from the 2024 Absa RUN YOUR CITY Series .
“ Each of the five events will feature a total prize purse of R312,000 . Within this allocation , R252,000 will be earmarked for the Open category , with R126,000 dedicated to the top 10 men and R126,000 to the top 10 women . The top male and female finishers in each city will be awarded R30,000 each , with R25,000 going to the second-place finishers and R20,000 to the third-place finishers . Additionally , R60,000 will be designated for age categories , to be distributed among the top three finishers in each of the Junior , 40-49 , 50-59 , 60-69 and 70 + categories .”

The Absa RUN YOUR CITY Series has transformed the landscape of road running in South Africa since its inception in 2015 , having grown to five mass participation events spread across five vibrant cities , and becoming the country ’ s premier 10km series and providing runners and walkers of every age and ability the opportunity to see their home city in a way they may never have done before .
Exciting news for runners who like to collect race medals is that in 2024 , each of the five Absa RUN YOUR CITY Series events will showcase unique , city-specific medals , adding a personalised touch to the participant experience reflective of the host city ' s essence and character .
In closing Meyer adds , “ Witnessing world-class performances on home soil is always a thrill , and by providing a substantial prize purse , we aim to inspire athletes to arrive fully prepared and determined to give their best performance on race day . UNPRECEDENTED PRIZE PURSE
The five races in the acclaimed Absa RUN YOUR CITY series will boast a massive combined prize purse of R1,560,000 in 2024 .
In 2022 and 2023 , South African 10km racing was taken to new heights by the Absa RUN YOUR CITY Series , with fve SA men dipping under 28 minutes on home soil for the first time ever . This was largely thanks to the world class fields of elite athletes assembled for the races in this series , but also thanks to the impressive prize money on offer , which prompted world-class racing from gun to tape ! And now , the 2024 series is set to provide the same great racing action . “ We are proud to once again offer an impressive combined series prize purse of R 1,560,000 in 2024 ,” says Meyer .
HUGE INCENTIVES FOR LOCAL STARS
In addition to the unprecedented combined prize purse of R1,560,000 , the Absa RUN YOUR CITY Series will also feature an impressive SA Athlete Prize Incentive Schedule for this year ’ s series .
The special incentive for local athletes is applicable to all five iconic races in the series in 2024 , and will offer bonuses for exceptional performances . In the men ’ s category , bonuses start for times faster than 28 minutes , with a substantial R200,000 awaiting anyone who breaks the 27-minute barrier . For women , the bonuses will start for times faster than 32:08 , with a remarkable R200,000 incentive being awarded if the 30:23 barrier is broken .
