MA : First of all , it was great to see you back in Cape Town …
DSE : It was great to be back , and I got to surprise my family this trip . I ’ ve never done that before , but adidas asked me not too long ago if I would be a part of their global adizero shoot for 2023 , and that they were shooting and filming in Cape Town , so of course I said yes . That meant I got to surprise my mom , dad and sister , and it was awesome !
MA : Did you literally just knock on the front door and say surprise ?
DSE : Pretty much , yeah . I didn ’ t tell them , which was very hard , obviously . Instead of asking my parents to pick me up from the airport , I had a driver pick me up , and he played along and rang the doorbell at my parents ’ house , and said , “ Hi , I have a package for Mike and Renee Scott . My dad didn ’ t think anything of it , because my sister is always ordering packages , but then I hopped out the van , and he was in shock . My mom was in the garden , on the phone to her twin sister , and I literally ran all the way up to her until she noticed I was there . She was also in shock , and instead of putting the phone down and saying hi to me , she just held the phone to her ear , and said , “ Dominique is in my garden ! Dominique is in my garden !” It was amazing , and it ended up being such a cool weekend to fly home , because my sister got engaged that Saturday night , too . On the Sunday morning , my parents were joining my sister and her fiancé for breakfast , so I surprised her , too .
MA : Getting back to the photoshoot , do you feel comfortable in front of the camera , especially after many years of being photographed ?
DSE : This type of photo shoots is really fun . They just wanted me running , so I ’ m comfortable in front of the camera for this type of stuff ... but don ’ t ask me to be a model and to do these different poses or faces . I hate doing that , because I don ’ t know what to do . I ’ m
Dom recently surprised her parents with an unexpected visit back home in Cape Town
not a trained model ! But it helps that adidas always has an amazing crew of photographers and videographers , so they make it very easy to do my job .
On the Monday , we were at a track and they wanted me to act like I was getting to the track and doing my warm-up and then a workout . But obviously there was no workout that actually happened , and there was no real warm-up , there was just a lot of pretending . Then Tuesday it was meant to be like I was finishing a race in first place , and I was looking over my shoulder to see if there was anyone catching me . And then the third day of filming was about just like being focused mid-race , with a lot of those type
