Nare won five of the six races in the series , losing only the first one in Gqeberha to Johannes , who finished second in the other three races she competed in , but here she was beaten into third . Gebre ’ s 32:18 was only one second slower than the South African junior open record she set in the Durban race , while Nancy Will achieved her third SA Record of the year in the great-grandmaster ( 70 +) category , with her 48:50 .
Precious Oh So Close Hollywoodbets Durban Summer 10km , 30 October
Fast times were recorded in the Hollywoodbets Durban Summer 10km , which had big prize money , with seven men dipping below 29 minutes and three women below 35 minutes . Precious Mashele missed his 28:11 PB by just one second as he won by 10 seconds from Thabang Mosiako , who did get a PB with his 28:22 . Milton Kekana ( fifth in 28:45 ) and Mathews Leeto ( sixth in 28:49 ) also got career bests . In the women ’ s race , Cacisile Sosibo easily beat SA champion Glenrose Xaba , 33:07 to 33:49 .

Another Solid NY for Steyn TCS New York Marathon , USA , 6 November
A dramatic TCS New York City Marathon resulted in wins for two Kenyans , Boston Marathon champion Evans Chebet ( 2:08:41 ) and Sharon Lokedi ( 2:23:23 , in her debut over the distance ). South African women ’ s marathon record-holder Gerda Steyn , who finished 11th in New York in 2019 with a 2:27:48 finish , once again narrowly missed out on a top 10 finish , crossing the line 12th in 2:30:22 . Her halves were 1:13:21 and 1:17:01 .

The Soweto Marathon was won in a slow time by Ethiopia ’ s Daba Ifa Debele in 2:18:58 , with his countrywoman Chaltu Bedo Negashu ( 2:40:56 ) taking the women ’ s title . Foreign athletes filled the first four places in the men ’ s race and the top eight in the women ’ s race , with the first South Africans being Ntsindiso Mphakathi ( fifth in 2:21:21 ) and Adele Broodryk ( ninth in 2:57:16 ). The half marathon titles went to David Manja ( 1:07:35 ) and Nomvula Nonjabe ( 1:21:40 ), while the 10km titles were claimed by Mathews Leeto ( 30:15 ) and Cacisile Sosibo ( 35:14 ).

After the recent Sanlam Cape Town Peace Run 10km , Hollywoodbets Durban Summer 10km and SPAR Grand Prix Cape Town 10km women ’ s race , there have been a few changes to the men ’ s and women ’ s lists for 10km for the year , but the races run earlier in the year , notably the Absa RUN YOUR CITY Durban 10K , remains the dominant event on the list for 2022 .
