Totalsports Women’s Race Highlights Cherished Mother City Landmarks
Cape Town is set to shine on
National Women’s Day when
thousands of runners and
walkers take on the Totalsports
Women’s Race in support of
PinkDrive. “The Totalsports
Women’s Race Cape Town route
includes a few hills, so running
a personal best will probably
not be on the cards, but the
oldest city in South Africa
boasts dozens of beautiful and
historical buildings and iconic
landmarks to look out for on route. Runners will be in awe of the splendour of the
Mother City,” says Agne du Plessis, Stillwater Sports’ General Manager Road Running.
“Both the 10km and 5km races will start and finish in front of the Cape Town City Hall,
and other iconic landmarks on the route will include the Company Gardens, South
African National Gallery, South African Jewish Museum and District Six, to mention
just a few. The calming setting of the Company Gardens, serenity of the harbour and
stunning views of Table Bay at the top of District Six will add a special ambiance to this
much anticipated Women’s Day celebration. Entrants can look forward to a fantastic
day out with family and friends.”
Phindi Counts down to the Totalsports Women’s Race Durban
For the seventh consecutive year, well-known SA radio personality, businesswoman
and Mrs South Africa 2019 finalist, Phindi Gule-Burley, will celebrate Women’s Day
by motivating runners and walkers at the Totalsports Women’s Race in Durban. “The
Totalsports Women’s Race was the very first 10km race that I ran back in 2011, so this race
will always be close to my heart. It made me fall in love with running and I have grown so
much over the years as an athlete and broadcaster,” she says.
“I cannot wait to salute every woman for being on the start line on 9 August,” continues
Gule-Burley. “My goal is to encourage and motivate every single entrant. I really enjoy
uncovering those heart-warming stories, and I also look forward to building the suspense
as we wait to see which elite runner will cross the finish line first.”
Sadie,
F
or the first time since the event’s inception in 2001, all
three events of the Totalsports Women’s Race will be
hosted on one day across three major cities. Taking
place on Friday 9 August in Johannesburg, Cape Town and
Durban, these races have grown into South Africa’s largest
running celebration of National Women’s Day.
