Best Way to Get There ADVERTORIAL You may think you have everything covered ahead of the Old Mutual Om Die Dam Marathon & Half Marathon on 17 March, but have you planned your route to get to the venue? Sitting in traffic is not how we want you to start your race, so check out our recommended access route! What to Avoid The committee would also like to advise that runners should avoid travelling over Saartjiesnek and through the town of Hartbeespoort, as this route is likely to be congested. Also, the following roads will be closed after midnight on the Friday night before the race: • The R512 at Damdoryn Junction. Motorists travelling on the R512 from Lanseria will have to turn right towards Pelindaba and take the R511 over Saartjiesnek and through Hartbeespoort. Should you arrive at Damdoryn, you will be directed on a detour via Brits! • Scott Street going over the dam wall will be closed, with NO ACCESS to the venue. • The R511 Diepsloot Road has road works with a stop-and-go system, which will cause delays, and this route also goes through the centre of Hartbeespoort, so is also not recommended. T he Old Mutual Om die Dam organising team recommends that all runners travelling from the Gauteng Region should take the N1 North to Pretoria, then the N4 West towards Brits/Rustenburg. At the R511 off-ramp, turn left towards Hartbeespoort, and then right at the R513, which will take you straight to the Hartbeespoort Holiday Resort venue. This will enable motorists to stay on the Freeway as long as possible, with the least delays. Nevertheless, runners are still advised to give themselves enough time to get to the venue, aiming to get there before 5am, so that everyone has enough time to locate the start and have a decent warm-up before their run. Make sure your race day experience is a pleasant one, without unnecessary sprinting to the start because you only arrived with five minutes to spare!
