DEADLY DOZEN
1 MIN 53 SECONDS

a hot topic

Everyone was talking about Deadly Dozen after the first event in Cape Town on 22 March. With the ability to deliver track-based fitness racing all year round, across the country, it offers something simultaneously very different and extremely exciting. The outdoor racing, the vibes, and the 12 x runs and stations are both challenging and accessible.

All that post-Cape Town chatter led to over 500 % more athletes showing up for the second race, held on Saturday 3 May at Roodepoort’ s Ruimsig Athletics

Stadium.
Deadly Dozen’ s pitch is,“ train anywhere, race everywhere”. After just one year the format’ s track events have expanded beyond the United Kingdom and into the United States, Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Australia, Italy, Malta, Germany— and now, most importantly of course, South Africa. It offers competitive, fun racing across Singles, Doubles and Relays.
The organisers have big plans: for instance, they’ re hoping to plug into the country’ s main universities and ultimately create intervarsity competitions. Accessibility is crucial when it comes to fitness racing, since it’ s more than just a sport, it’ s a lifestyle and a community.
