Of course, the multiple gossiping, rumors, and ignoring certain peers eventually leads to a form of bullying. Back in the past, bullyings were more physical with a limited range of people being involved all while likely to be unseen by authorities. Now, with the development of technology and strict determination into keeping society safe and protected, rumors are taken more offensely as it is more likely to be spread worldwide. The use of social media and smart phones sometimes tempts kids into hurting other peers through words while physical abuses are lessened since all arguments are now usually online.
Comparing then and now, it seems rumors are taken in more as social media gets involved in the big mess. Rumors always comes in a bad consequence since it is basically spreading false information to others who believe it to be true. There is no reason (especially in teenagers) to be spreading such things even for attention, fun, or revenge. It is hurtful for everyone involved and a bystander should take action immediately when it would eventually lead to bullying.
